VFW POST 10227 NEWSLETTER
VOL. 8 JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2007 NO. 9
Dear Comrades and Sisters,
We are happy to announce that your Post now has it's own web site. Comrade, Gordon Gillespy has been putting this together for us and he announced that we are now on line with our newsletter and other Post happenings. This will get the news out faster to those of you who have computers. We would like to hear your comments. Our web site address is www.vfwpost10227.org. We hope to save on postage and printing of our newsletters by using the web. For those of you who do not have computers, please send in your request to continue mailing your newsletter. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you do not want your newsletter mailed, so please let us know.
SECOND SATURDAYS
January began with our second Saturday breakfast at "Danny D's restaurant, and in spite of the cold, we had a good attendance. February 10 at I-Hop, another good attendance, but our members preferred Danny D's, so we will hold our Sat. March 10th breakfast there! The time is 9:00 AM. Hope to see you all there!
DUES IN ARREARS
We would like to remind those who have not paid their 2006 dues that they will be dropped as of April 1st. Our new membership fees are $15.00 and 2007 dues are going to be $25.00 as June 1st, 2007. A motion to raise our dues from $20.00 to $25.00 was passed at our February meeting.
HAVE WE LOST YOU?
We have over one hundred life members of our Post living in Prescott, Dewey and Prescott Valley. Eighty percent are never heard from until they need help or die. They are only names in our roster. We are not sure that all are still living or have moved. In order to keep our records straight, we asked that our members fill in the forms that we sent with one of our previous newsletters regarding your status. We received little feedback. This information is most important to us, and must be kept current. We will soon be calling those who did not answer to verify their status. If you know someone who is recently deceased or has moved, please contact our Chaplain, John Pietz, (928) 772-1768. Send your change of address to Q/M, Jerry Burress, (928) 775-4478.
YOUR POST MEETINGS
Having a good attendance at our meetings is important, and we should make an effort to increase our attendance at each meeting. By attending, you show that you care about your fellow comrades and you are not just another name on our roster. Our meeting attendance has increased since we found a new meeting place, and we hope to keep growing.
IN MEMORIUM
It is with deep sorrow that we report the passing of our comrades

Services for Comrade Stolle will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3950N Valorie Dr. Prescott Valley at 11:00AM on Saturday March 10.
POST 10227 ANNIVERSARY
Our Post will be 35 years old on April 3rd, 2007. This calls for a celebration, and we have decided to have a party. We are looking to find the best place to hold it and will contact several restaurants and other places for the best menu and price. If you have any suggestions, we would like to hear from you. Our PO Box number is 25702 PV, AZ 86312. The place we chose will be announced at our March 24 meeting.
SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS
Our Post has decided to adopt a unit in Iraq, and send care packages to our troops. We hope the Auxiliary will join us in this effort and make it a joint success. We intend to ask our merchants for donations and merchandise and we will include their names with our letters. Any member wishing to hlep can also donate.
OUR THANKS
Our Post wishes to thank Comrade Keith Duncan (new member) for his generous donation to our Post Flag Fund. We have over 90% life members in our Post that do not pay dues, and the income we receive from National for these members is hardly enough to keep a Post going, so we really appreciate your donations. We also wish to thank all of you who have donated in the past. It's good to know that somebody cares.
HAPPENINGS
Our Post will be celebrating it's 35th anniversary on April 3rd, and we are working on a luncheon to celebrate this event. More news on web later.
District 2 meeting at Flagstaff on April 14th. 11:00AM, joint meeting 1:00PM District Post meeting. If you intend to go, contact Commander, Wes Walker for more info.
April 28th meeting. Elks Lodge, 9:30AM. Election of officers. All must attend. This is the most important meeting of the year, and will hold the future of your Post. Be there!
Finding new officers is the hardest task your Post has. Most of us are willing to sit by and let others get tagged with the responsibility for getting things done. Those few, some who have served faithfully for many years, are wearing out. We need new members to try their hand at it. We need new ideas, new energy! The term for officers shoudl only be 2 years! Because you won''t volunteer, most of your officers are stuck with their jobs for many more years. This has to change or we will lose our Post. Think about it!
IN THE WORKS
Q/M, Jerry Burress has proposed that our Post adopt a military unit from Arizona, now serving overseas. We will collect much needed items that our troops find hard to come by, and send them. These must be small items like hand lotion, sun block, handy wipes, cnady (no chocolate), handkerchiefs, etc. Jerry will need help, we hope the Auxiliary will join us in this project. If you wish to volunteer, call Jerry 775-4478.
BINGO AT THE VA
Tuesday, March 13, 6:00PM in the theater building. Volunteers have as much fun as the patients. Come out and give Ralph a hand. If you need a ride, call him: 772-6667, and we will see that you get a ride.
